For instance, if a name is spelled McClure on the Index and the modern day or known spelling is McCluer, then one can annotate such in a Biography submission. Appropriate documented sources are encouraged when attempting to verify a spelling or any other statement of fact.
Note that these are indexes and not the actual census records. The original 1850 Census records or as they were called "Population Schedules",contain the name of each free person which shows NAME; AGE; SEX; COLOR; OCCUPATION FOR MALES OVER 15; VALUE OF REAL ESTATE OWNED, THE STATE OR TERRITORY OR COUNTRY OF BIRTH; WHETHER THE PERSON ATTENDED SCHOOL; WAS MARRIED WITHIN THE YEAR; WHETHER THE PERSON COULD READ OR WRITE IF OVER 20 YEARS OF AGE; WHETHER THE PERSON WAS DEAF-MUTE, BLIND, INSANE, AN IDIOT, A PAUPER OR A CONVICT.
