ABERNETHY
--- Alexander ABERNETHY
...is the oldest resident physician of Troy Township (Richland
County). He was born in Pennsylvania in the year 1810. He came to
Ohio and settled in Lexington in 1836. In 1843 he married
Katharine FULTON. He went to California during the Gold Rush. He
also served two terms in the Ohio Legislature.

ACKERMAN --- Henry
ACKERMAN
He was born in Hesse Darmstadt, in the town of Neidermodau,
Germany, July 11, 1845, and came to this county in 1865. He
removed to Mansfield in 1866. He was married in Mansfield, July
12, 1867, to Christina HARTMAN.

ADAMS --- Andrew ADAMS
born in Bedford Co., Penn., June 15, 1820, the fourth of nine
children, coming with his parents to Ohio. He was united in
matrimony to Miss Ann ZEIGLER, April 7, 1842; she was born near
Somerset, Perry Co., Ohio and came with her parents to Blooming
Grove Twp. Richland Co. about 1817, being among the first
settlers of that county. They have had five children, three of
whom are living.

ADAMS --- Thomas C.
ADAMS
....was born in Cumberland Co., Penn., May 14, 1830, where he
resided until the fall of 1851; he removed to Springfield, Clark
Co.; he remained there about one year, when he went to LaFayette,
Ind.; he stayed there about four years before moving back to
Cumberland County. He removed to this county in May, 1863. He was
married Jan. 10, 1861, to Margaret A. SNYDER, who was born in
Perry County, Penn., March 29, 1840; the fruits of their marriage
are three children.

ALBRIGHT --- Henry
ALBRIGHT
....born in Clear Creek Township, Ashland Co., Ohio, April 2,
1847, where he resided until the age of 14 years, when he soon
after went into the army. He was a member of Co. B., 102d O.V.I.;
was enrolled August 1862 and discharged in 1865, when he returned
to his native place, where he resided for about two years when he
removed to this township (Blooming Grove). August 28, 1870, he
was married to Miss Ellen SONANSTINE; they have one child, a son.

ALGIRE --- Jacob
ALGIRE
....deceased; he was born in Bedford Co., Penn., July 15, 1799;
he came to Ohio and settled in Perry Township in 1827; his
companion, Mary MCFERREN, was born March 1, 1802; they were
married May 10, 1827; they had nine children.

ALLEN --- Albert S.
ALLEN
Born Dec. 9, 1846 in Mansfield, OH, son of Alanson ALLEN and
Rhoda CLARK. A Civil War veteran, serving in Company F, 82nd Ohio
Infantry. Moved to Kansas in 1872. He married Lizzie MOSEY,
daughter of Christian MOSEY. He was living in Barton County,
Kansas, in 1902.

ALLEN --- J.W. ALLEN
....was born in Shenandoah Co., near Mt. Jackson, Va., Oct. 20,
1811. He resided there until the year 1854, when he came to this
county. In the year 1833, on the 12th of September, he was
married to Miss Catherine J. SONANSTINE; they had four children.

C. ANDERSON
....was born in Preble Co., Ohio, Feb. 27, 1841, where he resided
until the age of 11, when his parents removed to Randolph Co.,
Ind., where they remained about two years, when they came to
Richland Co. In 1865 he was married to Elizabeth A. BURGOYNE;
they have four children. During the war Mr. ANDERSON........
enlisted four different times, receiving an honorable discharge
each time.

ANDREWS --- Jacob
ANDREWS
He was born in Delaware County, New York, March 18, 1803. He came
to this county (Richland) with his parents Aug. 1, 1823. They
settled in Jefferson Township. He married Miss Christina BAKER in
December, 1830. She was born in Franklin County, Penn., April 17,
1807. She came to this county in April, 1823. After his marriage
he moved on the farm he bought, formerly owned by Thomas
ANDREWS.... where he has since resided.

ANDREWS --- Lyman W.
ANDREWS
He was born in Chenango County, New York, November 7, 1818. He
came to this county (Richland) with his parents at the age of 5
years, August 1, 1823. He entered a quarter-section of the
government land where he now resides (Washington Township). He
was married to Anna OLDFIELD, March 12, 1845. She was born in
this county, Jan. 25, 1827.

ARMSTRONG --- John H.
ARMSTRONG
....was born in this county on the 10th of December, 1836. He
enrolled in Co. M, 2d O.V.C. being discharged Oct. 7, 1864. In
the year 1866 he was married to Miss Susannah PIFER; they have
reared a family of six children.

ARMSTRONG --- Samuel
M. ARMSTRONG
....was born in Franklin Township, this county, on the 1st day of
July, 1830; he resided here until the spring of 1841, when his
parents removed to this township. He enrolled himself as a member
of Co. F, 82d O.V.I on the 30th day of November and was
discharged on the 25th of August, 1865. In the fall of 1856, on
the 16th of October, he was married to Miss Sarah J. BURNS; they
have had nine children. Mr. ARMSTRONG'S father was born Dec. 29,
1800, in Adams Co., Penn.; he was 2 years of age when he removed
to this State, and at age 22 he came to this county.

ARNETT --- Hiram
....born in Belmont Co., Ohio, March 10, 1810; he is a son of
Samuel and Nancy ARNETT, who moved to Muskingum Co., near
Dresden, when the subject of this sketch was about 9 years of
age; they afterward moved about ten miles northwest of Zanesville
in the same county; they then moved to Granville, Licking Co.,
staying in the latter place about eighteen months, then moving to
Richland Co. in 1822, they settled near Bellville. Mr. ARNETT
resided with his parents until he was about 22 years of age, when
he was married in the fall of 1832 to Miss Elizabeth KEMP,
daughter of John and Mary KEMP, who emigrated from Virginia and
settled in Stark Co., afterward moving to Richland Co., they
settled in Sharon Township in 1827 or 1828. His wife died Feb.
14, 1864; there were seven children born to them, four sons and
three daughters.

AUGUSTINE
He was born in Sugar Creek Falls, Ohio, Oct. 27, 1831 and came to
Mansfield in 1850. He was married to Miss Louisa RITTER, daughter
of the late Joseph RITTER May 25, 1858.

AUNGST
He was born in Jefferson Township (Richland County) Sep. 3, 1854.

AYRES --- William P.
AYRES
.... head clerk in the way-bill office of the U. S. Express
Company at the Union Depot, Atchison, was born in Richland
County, Ohio, February 10, 1838. While in his native State his
occupation was that of a merchant, and in 1857 he came to Kansas.
His first engagement with the U. S. Express Company was at
Lawrence, this State, the same year of his arrival here being
deliverer and general helper in the office at that place. After
two years' trial at this he was advanced to messenger on the
road, his route being changed a number of times, and in 1873
located at Atchison, and in 1878 was appointed to his present
position. Mr. AYERS is now among the oldest expressmen in the
State, and by strict attention to business, and the adept manner
in which his various duties have been performed, has acquired the
reputation of a man thoroughly acquainted with his business.
