1.  THOMAS1 SALTS, SR. was born Abt. 1759 in Ireland, and died 1819 in Jackson
County, Ohio.  He married MARY BURTON October 30, 1780 in Preston, Lancashire,
England.  She was born January 05, 1763 in England, and died July 10, 1846 in
Vinton County, Ohio.
Notes for THOMAS SALTS, SR.: Thomas Salts was listed in the 1782 and 1784 Virginia
State Census, listing three in the household. On July 21, 1789, he received a land
grant of 202 acres in Hampshire County, Virginia. On June 24, 1814, he purchased
land in Ross County, Ohio. This land is now in Vinton County. Due to many boundary
changes,  the land purchased by Thomas Salts was in three different counties
(Ross, Jackson, and Vinton) from 1814 to 1850. Thomas and his sons came to
McArthur, Ohio, and they worked as coal miners and lumbermen. Thomas and Mary are
buried near Bethel Church, Vinton County, Ohio. This is the site of the "Old
McArthur Cemetery". There is a marker for Mary, but none for Thomas.
Notes for MARY BURTON: In the book "The History of Hocking County", Mary Salts is
listed as an organizer of the Campbellite Disciple Church group of Clinton
Township in 1846. Her son Edward and his wife and children were also among the
organizing group. The inscription on her tombstone reads "Mary, wife of Thomas
Salts. Died July 10, 1846, Age 83 yrs, 6 mo, 5 da." Near her gravesite is a stone
that reads "James W., son of T. and M.A. Salts", there are no dates listed.

2.  EDWARD2 SALTS, SR. (THOMAS1) was born 1778 in Virginia, and died December 26,
1862 in Vinton County, Ohio.  He married REBECCA ROSS 1804 in Ross County, Ohio,
daughter of STEPHEN ROSS and ELIZABETH CROSE.  She was born 1779 in Hampshire
County, Virginia, and died December 07, 1858 in Ross County, Ohio.
Notes for EDWARD SALTS, SR.: War of 1812 Veteran, Captain James Wallace's Company,
Ross County, Ohio. Purchased land in Elk Township, Vinton County, in 1816. He
owned 675 acres, giving each of his three sons 60 acres each. The 1850 Census
lists real estate valued at $4000. Thomas and his wife were among the organizers
of the Campbellite Disciple Church of Clinton Township. Both are buried in the
cemetery at Bethel Church south of McArthur.

Warren County, Indiana.  He married SARAH JORDAN.  She was born Abt. 1803 in Ohio,
and died Aft. 1880 in Vinton County, Ohio.
Notes for SAMUEL SALTS: Owned land in Clinton Township, Vinton County, Ohio, in
1840. During the 1850 census, he was living in Harrison Township, Vinton County,
with his wife Sarah and their seven children. He evidently went to Indiana to seek
land, and died there. He is buried in Lyons Cemetery, Warren County, Indiana. The
1860 census shows his wife Sarah and the children living in Rayville, Ohio.
