Blaugher, Daniel
Not lised in the 1830 census for Green Twp.

Bleeks, John
From the deed books in Wooster:I haven't found for certain where Bleeks was living in 1820.
But it may have been on SouthWest Quarter of Section 5 in Green Township.
A US land patent was granted to John Richy 27 Sep 1819.  He conveyed this property to
John Bleeks Sr. 31 Mr 1821.  This was witnessed by Thomas Smith(Justice of Peace) and John B. Lorah.
In 1827  John Bleeks Sr. and wife Rebecca sold the east half of the SouthWest Quarter of Section 5 to
John Bleeks Jr. for $600.  Later in 1831 both father and son sold the whole SouthWest quarter section 5 to

5This information was contributed by David Chrisman, a descendant of John Bleeks.
There is a John Bleeks, wife Rebecca, who had a son John who would have been 16 at the time of the 1820 census.
This John Jr., who was born ca 1804 in PA, married Mariah Chrisman Dec 1825 in Wayne County OH.

Rebecca died 29 Aug 1851 and was listed as living with her son John in Crawford County OH in 1850.

Brant, Christian
6Amish minister
3According to information at http://www.gendex.com/users/geiser/hostetlr/surnames.html#F
a Christian Brant, wife Catherine, came 1810 or after to Wayne County.  Christian , Catherine and the
children were all born in Switzerland. Christian died in 1866 in Wayne and Catherine died in 1841 in Wayne.
Catherine is buried at Paradise Cemetery.  She died 27 Dec 1841 at age 68.

In 1836 Christian Brand and wife Catherine sold Section 21 Partial NorthEast to David Smoker. Both parties
were residents of Wayne County.  But I don't yet know what section he might have been living on in 1820 at the
time of the census.

Burgan, Mary   Probably the widow of Daniel Burgan.
From the deed books in Wooster:
Daniel Burgan bought  ten acres of land at the northwest corner of the NorthWest Quarter of section 28
from David and Massey Boydston.

No Burgans in the 1830 census in Green Twp.
The Wayne County Cemetery book says that Daniel was buried in the Boydston-Bodine Cemetery at the northern end of East Union Township on a property that used to belong to my ancestor Amos Walter.  I went there to try to find this cemetery, but could not find any stones. The book says that he died 11 Aug 1818 at age 66. So he was born around 1752.

From the probate records in Wooster:
Will of Daniel Burgan written 1818:

In the Name of God Amen
I Daniel Burgan of Wayne County and State of Ohio being Weak in body but of sound and and perfect Mind and Memory thanks be to allmighty god for the same Considering the Uncertanty of this Mortal Life I do Make and publish this Last will and testament In the Manner and form Following.  In the first place My Just Debts to be paid and My funeral expences also It is My will that twelve Dollars should out of My Estate be Equally Divided amongst My Children That Does not Now Compose My fammily Namely Elizabeth, Rebecka, Nancy, Mary, Easther, Jacob, Sarah, Hannah, Marget, Ketturah and James.__ It is also my will and Desire that My beloved Wife Mary should hold and possess the farm and quarter of Land whereon I Now Live for the use of herself and My daughter Rachal and My five younger Sons Daniel, William, David, Evens F, and Samuel

George Wade

[The court appointed as appraisers John Wade, John Burnet and Jonathan Casebeer.]

Cain, Peter
Not in the 1830 census for Green Twp.

Casebeer, Jonathan
4"Jonathan Casbier was the first blacksmith."
This family moved away...not in the 1830 census for Green Twp.

Crites, Peter
From the deed books in Wooster:
In 1818 a Peter Crites bought  lot 22 in Bristol, Wayne County from James Marshall and wife Jane.
Now, Bristol, it seems from the deed books, was surveyed and owned by James Marshall. It was located in the
NorthEast quarter of Section 5 in Baughman township which is the just to the east of Green township.

So why was Peter Crites on the 1820 census for Green Township.  I think he may have been living and working
on land belonging to Henry Crites.  This could have been his father....don't know...but a good clue.
In 1821 Peter Crites bought Parts of Sections 24, 23, and 13 from John Harris and his wife Catherine also of
Wayne County.  This could be the John Harris listed below. In the deed it says Peter Crites was heir and legal
representative of Henry Crites late of Washington County PA.  And it states that this land was formerly owned
by Henry Crites who got the land from a US patent.

In 1822 Peter Crites bought Section 13 from John Harris. (It must have been the remainder of that section.)

In 1823 Peter Crites and his wife Eve sold their lot 22 in Bristol, Baughman township to Michael Erich.

In 1828 Peter sold Section 13 to George Crites.

In 1828 Peter Crites  bought more of Section 23 from a group of heirs.....there is the et al notation on the deed.
All of the parties were from Wayne county.  This is a great clue to the relatives of Peter Crites.
George and Mary Crites, Catharine Harris, John and Agnes Stoner, Leonard and Catherine Erick, Jonah Crites.

Peter Crites is on the 1830 census for Green Twp.

Marilyn Gallaway sent this information about Peter Crites birth family.  [Marilyn thinks her ancestor
is Peter's son , George, who would be the George and Mary mentioned in the 1828 deed above..]:
Father Henry Crites born in 1758 in Northampton Co PA
Henry's children:
First son John Peter Crites, born 1794 Washington Co PA, died 1867 and buried St Michaels Cemetery;
            married Eva Marie Erick
Second son, George Crites
And then Michael, Jonah, Hannah, Agnes, Henry, and William.

Here is a document that I found in Wayne County that is rather confusing because it seemed from above information that Peter Crites' father, Henry died in PA.

Fitner, Abraham
From the births of the children, this family would have come to Green Township sometime between 1817
and the time that the census was taken in 1820.
From the deed books in Wooster:  1816 Land Patent to Abraham Feightner of Westmoreland Co PA.

He was a trustee of Greene Twp from 1825-1826. He first built a log
cabin and later moved his family further into the country.
The Feightner homestead was built in 1833 from stone he quarried from
the hill beside the house on the land where the house still stands. It is
listed in a book of Wayne Co. Homes published in 1976. It is said he
selected this farm because its hills and valleys resembled those of his old home
"back east".  Also there were stones aplenty to build with. The house and farm was
in the original family's possession until 1935.
I visited this house in 1996 and had a marvelous visit with the present owners.
The interior is beautiful and it is indeed amazing how well the house is built.
There is a cornerstone which has the names Abraham Feightner and John Wilson
chiseled into it. The stone is on the very top right side of the house.
Abraham also built another house very similar to this one, just a mile down the road.

Abraham was a most successful business man and farmer as he amassed
over 500 acres in different counties in Ohio.

died in 1846 in Wayne county at age 25. Otillia was the first one born in Green Township in 1818.
Peter and Elizabeth came to Wayne County with Jacob Kiefer family, Mr.and Mrs John Lowrey, and
John Flickinger, his brother. His brother Jacob already lived in Wayne County. Later another brother
Daniel came with his family and with their mother Susan Witt Flickinger.  Elizabeth died in 1843.
Peter died in 1849.  His second wife died six months after Peter. The contributor says
there is a book called The Flickinger Families in the United States of America written by Robert Flickinger,
which may contain a great deal more information. Some of her information came through correspondence
with Gladys Flickinger.

Probate records for Jesse McKinley of Green township:
Jesse died sometime before 29 June 1833.
There were two administrators; William Ruffcorn was replaced by John Musser.
Jesse did leave a widow and there are several references to a Mary. So this may be the widow's name, but
it does not say anywhere "widow Mary".
There were children still at home apparently.  One, possibly two, were daughters.

The widow was given for the support of the family:  5 acres wheat, 3 acres rye, 3 acres oats, lot of grass,
barrel with meal, lot of hogs, red cow, knives and forks, churn, side saddle and bridle, lot of corn,

Smith, George
Possibly the brother of Thomas Smith....see below.

***Smith, Thomas
1According to the Douglas history, Smithville was named after Thomas Smith.  In 1818 he built the first house in
that area.
Reasin Beall had a store in a part of his little cabin. But a new village was laid out in 1836.
Thomas was born 14 May 1788 in Washington County PA.  He was married 9 January 1815 to Jane Wiley
in that same county.  They came to Green Township around 1818.
4Thomas built the first sawmill in 1819.
************
5The following was contributed by Robert Smith, a descendant of Thomas Smith.
Thomas Smith..... son of Valentine and Barbara Smith
Born in March of 1788 in Washington County, PA.
"Hero of the War of 1812"
Good friend of General Reason Beall.
At least one brother, George John Smith.
In 1815 Thomas married Jane Wiley in Washington County.
In 1818 they and their children moved to Wayne County, Ohio where Thomas built a cabin in the wilderness
at what is now Smithville, Ohio. His brother George preceded him to the area [see above] and had settled a
few miles east at what is now Orrville, Ohio.
Thomas converted a saw mill into a grist mill in 1819. His father, Valentine, who then lived in Saville, Perry County, PA, purchased a nearby mill in Marienburg and brought the grist works by wagon train to Smithville for his son.
Thomas and Jane had several children, including George W., David and Jeremiah.
Around 1835 Thomas "did something bad" and disappeared and I have no indication of his whereabouts after that
time. It is said he was a riverboat or canal boat captain. Family rumor indicates he (1) joined the gold rush,
(2) captained boats on the new canal systems either in western Ohio or eastern Indiana.

In the 1850 census, sons David and Jeremiah had moved back to the main street of Smithville. Jeremiah
operated an inn and nextdoor, his brother David had a tannery. George W., my great-great grandfather was
apprenticing the blacksmith trade near Akron and returned to Smithville in 1852 to marry Mary Ann Sapp,
originally of Knox County, OH. Around 1860, George W. and Mary Ann had migrated to Scipio Twp.,
Allen County, Indiana near the borderline village of Hicksville, Ohio.

Zook, John     [cousin of David Zook...see above]
3According to information at http://www.gendex.com/users/geiser/hostetlr/surnames.html#F
there is a John Zook, wife Catherine Weidman, who were married in Mifflin County Pa about 1796 and their
children were all born there except the last one listed as Solomon P. Zook born in 1822 in Wayne County OH.
So it seems that they came to Wayne County between 1816 and 1820 when the Census was taken.
Their daughter Sarah was married to John Hartzler [1818 in Mifflin co, PA]..........see
above "John Hartsler".
John Zook stayed in Wayne Co until his death in 1853.

From the deed books in Wooster:
In 1822 John Zook and wife Catharine sold the northwest corner of Section 19 NorthEast quarter
to John Wade (see above). The deed says the original patent holder for this land had been
Benjamin Boydston, 1818.

4The first bank barn was built by John Zook in 1826 on the SouthWest Quarter of Section 25.

7John Zook settled in Green Township in 1817. He and Catherine had 12 children.  He was one of the largest land
owners in Wayne county.  At his death he owned 13 quarter sections of land which by his will were equally divided
among his children.  John was 84 when he died.
