The GAR post #490 was named in memory of Jacob Davidson who served in the Continental Army
in the War for Independence.   John Davidson of the 9th Pennsylvania Infantry is buried in the Old Presbyterian Cemetery in Smithville along with his wife Eliza (died 1812) and a daughter named Ida.

The Post was chartered 26 Aug 1884.
