Federal Census
Smithville, OH  1910

The head of the household is the first person given.

Relationships that are given are the relationship to the head of the household.

Ages are in parentheses right after their first names.

Women were asked how many children they had had, and how many were still alive at
the time the census was taken.

These are in order as they appear on the census, so that not all people living on one street are
in the same place on this census or this webpage.

I did not repeat the birthplace of a parent if it was already given.

The number of years for marriage was for the present marriage.
The census taker did not start indicating M1 and M2 (I think this indicates marriage one and marriage two)
until the third page with Smithville people. The first couple that indicated M1 was Yost and Fanny Baker.
If the indication was M1 for a person, I did not include those here.
If you do not see an M2 indicated, the marriage was M1, or not marked at all.

Under personal description I only indicated male of female if it was necessary to do so. All the residents were listed as "white".  They were listed as single, married, widowed or divorced. On marriage status of children, I did not indicate it here if they were single.

If the occupation was given as "none", I did not include that here.  The occupations are given in red.

His maternal grandparents were Jacob and Ann (MUSSER) LUTZ of PA.  Jacob was a doctor and a farmer and moved to Wayne County in 1828-30.

After finishing college John began his practice in Toledo, OH, moving to Lima in 1894.  He was touring Europe before attending a veterinary conference in 1914 when the Germans began a drive through Belgium.  He quickly went to London to await a chance to return home, at one point being mistakenly arrested for a German spy.  Later in 1917 he was called upon to accept a commission as a major in the veterinary Corps of the army.
