The CCC Cemetery has
been located! The members included in locating this cemetery were:
Jackie P. Journey, Joyce A. Sparks and Joyce M. Sadler. Others included
in helping locate this cemetery were: Dennis D. Sadler, Coby and
Alyssa Sadler.
The specific location
of the cemetery is:
From US 52 West, take
State Route 125 South for 2.3 miles to Pond Lick-Forest Road (Forest
Road 1) on the left. Go 4.1 miles to the intersection of Forest
Road 1 and Forest Road 2. Bear right (straight) onto Forest Road
2 and go .07 mile. You will see an orange metal gate on the right
side of the road and a sign reading Mackletree Bridal Trail. Park
at the gate and walk approximately 50 feet. There are two wooden
posts on your right. This is the entrance to the cemetery.
GPS Coordinates -
38° 41' 52N · 83° 12' 32W
They are currently logging
Shawnee State Forest and have placed blue plastic ribbons on some
of the trees enclosing the cemetery. We assume this means "Do
Not Touch" for their logging equipment.
The cemetery is in very
poor condition with high grass and brush and several tree limbs
strewn all through it. From other sources, it is stated that the
cemetery is .07 acres. All of the markers are field stones and seem
to have both a stone at the head and foot of the burial place. You
can make out outlines of graves in the earth. Two of the larger
field stones had remnants of memorial flowers around them. There
are no inscriptions, so it is unknown who is buried here. There
seemed to be approximately 8-10 burials, but perhaps more located
under the dense brush.
