The specific location of the cemetery is:

I had noted that the SCOGS is collecting information on the cemeteries
of Scioto County. About 2 years ago, I visited the Cook Cemetery
located in West Portsmouth. If this information would be of use the
the society, I would be happy to share it. In short:

The cemetery is located on a hill behind and to the left of a house at
1201 Main Street, West Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. It is at the
top of a small rise and enclosed by a low wall. When visited on 30
May 2006, the cemetery was completely overgrown with weeds and brush.
After exploration, I was able to locate only two grave stones that are
above the surface of the ground. They are as follows:

(1) John H. Cook 1841-1913 and Lucinda A. Cook 1849-1913

(2) Katie L Cook, Jan 8 1879-Jan 17, 1880 and Lulu H. Cook, May 22,
1887-Oct 14 1898

According to my research, John H. Cook was the brother of William L.
Cook who is interred in the nearby Williamson Cemetery on Dry Run
Road, also in West Portsmouth region. ( and was my maternal great
grandfather).

I did not have a GPS unit at the time, but according to the USGS GNIS
information, the coordinates are 384549N 0830157W.

Due to technical difficulties, I do not currently have photos that I
can share of the cemetery, but if I make a second visit this weekend
(perhaps, as I had terrible poison ivy and "chiggers" after my
"excavation" at the last visit), I can share these as well.
