Claibourne Township




Claibourne Cemetery

                    

    This cemetery dates to 1842.  It was originally associated with the Bethlehem Methodist Protestant Church.  The original owner of this land was Henry Swartz.  Later, this land was owned by Jacob C. Sidle, who consequently donated an acre of land for the use as a cemetery.  This cemetery is still in use today (2006).  The Claibourne Cemetery is located on State Route 37 at its intersection with Bethlehem-Claibourne Road.

Graham Farm Cemetery

    This cemetery dates to before 1883.  Its precise location is unknown, but it is believed to have been located northwest of Richwood somewhere on present-day Mulvane Road.  It is believed that this cemetery was abandoned prior to 1883.

Hamilton Cemetery

      

    The Hamilton Cemetery dates to 1843.  The old Lennox School House is located adjacent to this cemetery.  This cemetery is located on LeMasters Road north of Mulvane Road.  The land for this cemetery was donated to the community by William Hamilton.


Richwood Cemetery 

      

    The Richwood Cemetery is no longer active and dates to 1842.  It is located behind the United Calvary Church in Richwood between Blagrove Street and East Ottawa Street.  It is believed that the unmarked grave of the pioneer Baptist preacher Rev. John Carney is interred in this small cemetery.


Stony Point Cemetery

             

    This cemetery dates to 1842.  It is located on Zook Road, east of Claibourne Road.  This cemetery is mentioned in the 1883 Beers' History of Union County.  When visited in the fall of 2006, the cemetery was found to be in good repair.
