The first school sessions in the area now included in Union County were
held in neighborhood homes. As more people settled in the
small neighborhoods scattered through out the area, school sessions
were held in the neighborhood churches. Eventually over time, one
room schools were built. As attendence in these one-room schools
increased, it became neccesary to centralize the schools in one place
in larger school houses. By 1937 there were 13 township school
districts in Union County. The Marysville Public School system
served children who lived in Marysville and Paris Township. There
were also three parochial schools in the county. Trinity Lutheran
School was located in Marysville in Paris Township. St. Paul
Lutheran School was located in Chuckery in the southern part of Darby
Township. And, St. Johns Lutheran School was located in the
German Settlement in the north central part of Darby Township.
Today Union County is home to three school districts, Marysville
Exempted Village Schools, North Union Local Schools, and Fairbanks
Local Schools. Trinity Lutheran School, St. Paul Lutheran School,
and St. Johns Lutheran School are still the only parochial schools in
the county.
