Uriah T. Gordon whose death occurred here last week was formerly a well-known and popular merchant and proprietor of a retail coal oil and gasoline distributing wagon. He was born near Spencerville, 0., on June 14, 1850, and his adult years were spent chiefly in St. Marys and vicinity. He located in our village somewhat over a year ago, of which his surviving wife was a resident at the time of their marriage. During his early years Mr. Gordon in an accident lost one of his arms. He refused to be disabled thereby and steadfastly followed occupations supposed to require the use of two hands. He seldom complained of his infirmity choosing rather to show his independence thereof. He was a man of pleasing and hearty manner; these traits being much to his advantage during his mercantile career. The deceased was a victim of hardening of the arteries and heart trouble, which was the cause of his death. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his death a daughter and a stepdaughter Mrs. Robert Skinner of Lima, and Mrs. Louis Boltz of St. Marys. One brother, three half-brothers and two half-sisters also survive. (Dixon)
