AGED DEFIANCE WOMAN EXPIRES
Mrs. Lucy Hemlinger Rites Will Be Held Here Wednesday. Mrs. Lucy Arvilla Hemlinger, 85, widow of Milton Hemlinger, who had lived in Defiance since 1900, died today at 6 a.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. L.E. Eitniear, 909 Wesley St. after being in failing health for 5 years due to infirmities of age. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Mansfield Funeral Home, Jefferson Ave. and Fifth St. with Rev. F. M. Swinehart, pastor of St. Paul's Mehtodist Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be made in Sherwood Cemetery, Defiance Co. Mrs. Hemlinger was born in Morrow Co. on April 1, 1844, a daughter of the late Joseph(Job) and Sarah Foust. When 12 years old, she moved with her parents to Van Wert. At the age of 21 she was married to John Knestrick, who died in Van Wert, Feb. 5, 1881. Mr. and Mrs. Knestrick had 5 children who survive: Horace Knestrick, Mt. Gilead; Willis Knestrick, Defiance; Mrs. John Eller, Van Wert; Mrs. Hugh Davidson, Detroit; and Ishe Knestrick, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; In July 1883, Mr. and Mrs. Hemlinger were married at Van Wert and had three children: Mrs. Eitniear, Defiance; Mrs. E.A. Wheaton, Sherwood and Louis Hemlinger, who was killed here May 22, 1918 when a team of horses ran away at Turnbull Wagon Co. There are 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren surviving. Mrs. Hemlinger also leaves a brother Chauncey Foust, South Bend, Ind.

DEATH OF P. A. ELLIS P. A. Ellis, a well-known resident of Celina, died Saturday morning in the Masonic Home in Springfield. His wife passed away on March 3. Mr. Ellis was born in Dublin township November 11, 1845, and was a well-known citizen of Mercer county.

CLAIMED BY DEATH Mrs. Helen Buck Emmert, 20, wife of Charles Emmert of Piqua was brought to Van Wert to the Loe funeral home and services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Rockford U. B. Church. Mrs. Emmert, a former Rockford girl, was married last October and had made her home in Piqua until her illness. She died last Friday night at a Sanitarium near Columbus. She is survived by her husband, her mother and one brother, Floyd Buck. Burial was made in the Hopewell cemetery.

Mrs. P. A. Ellis, 89, a well-known life-long resident of Ce- lina, died Monday in the Masonic Home in Springfield, where she was recently taken for care. Surviving are the husband P. A. Ellis, a sister, three grand children and other relatives. The funeral was held in Celina, Wednesday, from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Ellis.

DEATH OF LEWIS ECKHART
After a long and useful life, Lewis Eckhart passed away Friday morning after a few days, sickness at his home north of Rockford. His passing was a sad blow to his family and friends. While not in the best of health, he was up and around and a frequent visitor in Rockford. His passing was the result of a stroke suffered Tuesday morning.
Lewis Eckhart, son of Cornelious and Elizabeth Eckhart, was born in Hocking county, Ohio, March 17, 1851, and departed. this life from his home north of Rockford. Ohio, August 15, 1930, aged 79 years, 4 months and 28 days.
With his parents he moved to Van Wert county in 1864, and after some years the home was established in Mercer county, where the remainder of his life was spent.
Mr. Eckhart was united in marriage to Hannah Flager, Feb. 1st. 1876, and to this union six children were born, Carrie, Charles, John, William, Glen and Clyde.
Mr. Eckhart was an Honored Mason, being a member of Shanes Lodge No.377 F. & A. M. with a service of 55 years on its roster. He was an honored citizen, a, good neighbor and a faithful friend. His sunny disposition will make him a man much missed in Rockford and community.
He was preceded in death by his beloved companion in the year of 1918; two sons also preceded him Charles passing in 1917 and Glen D. Sept.1918, being the first Rockford boy to lose his life in the World War. His memory has been and is being honored by his comrades who established the Rockford Post in his name, it be ing the Glen D. Eckhart post 508 of the American Legion.
Those left to mourn their loss are one brother, Edward Eckhart, of Hudson, Mich.: four children, Mrs. Carrie Robinson, John and William Eckhart, all of Rockford, Ohio and Clyde Eckhart of North Manchester, Ind., a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Rock- ford United Brethren church; conducted by the pastor, Rev. V. H. Allman. Masonic funeral rites were conducted by members of Shanes Lodge F. & A. M. The interment was made in Riverside Cemetery.

MRS. JAMES WELKER CALLED BY DEATH Mrs. Sarah Jane Welker, widow of James Welker, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Pretorius, at Bippus, Friday afternoon about four o'clock. She was stricken with paralysis the first of last week and was helpless until her death. Friday morning she became unconscious. The body was brought to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Riley Elliott in North Manchester, and the funeral was held at the United Brethren church Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery.
Mrs. Welker's maiden name was Sarah Jane White and she was the daughter of Ruphis White and wife. She was born in Ohio and was 76 years 3 months and 8 days old at death. She married James Welker and they lived in Ohio until six years after their marriage when they moved to a farm near Bolivar. Mr. Welker died about six years ago and since then she has lived with her children. Three daughters survive, Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Pretorius and Mrs. Ida Howell of Fortville. One child died in infancy. Two brothers are living, Charles of Oklahoma and Richard of Wabash and two sisters, Mrs. Oliver Silvers and Mrs. Caroline Roberts of St. Mary's, Ohio.

COMMITS SUICIDE Richard Morris Evans, 52, well known farmer living near Venedocia, was found dead in bed, having ended his life by shooting himself with a 22 calibre rifle. He had muffled the rifle with the bed coverings and it was hours later before it was discovered that he had ended his life. Evans was unmarried and made his home with a sister. Four other sisters survive.
