The following is a transcription of a Foster Family History as written in 1910 by John Coleman Foster of Madison County, Iowa.  The transcriber [see name] attempted to retain as much of his own words and phrases as possible.

 

Family Record of Fosters

 

Benjamin born in Yorkshire England Samuel his son born in Yorkshire England 1750 and emigrated to Mariland about 1770 married in 1771 was the husband of 4 wives his first wife named Katy the mother of Jessie who was born in the year 1774 in Mariland and emigrated with his parents to Virginia at the age of two years in 1776 on horseback with his older sister Katy 4 years old in 2 large baskes packed with clothing hung to a pack saddle one on each side of the horse with a roap spun and made by hand of flax thread. The pack saddle packed with provisions.

 

The other horse hitched to a 2 wheeled cart filled with household goods beds & beding. So the young couple had to walk and each lead a horse about 300 miles through the wilderness over the mountains to Virginia.

 

Jessie Foster & Rachel Coleman was married in the year 1795 somewhere near the Junittta river. 3 children Katy & Samuel & Benjamin wereborn here. They then emigrated to Broox Co. Virginia in 1799 where 3 children John 1800, Moses 1802 Aaron in 1804.

 

They then emigrated to Cadiz Harrison Co. O. in 1805 where 2 more children Betsie (Elizabeth)& Sally were born they then moved to Tuscarawas Co. O. in the year 1809 located on little Stillwater 2 miles East of Waterford. Afterward Uhrichsville, now Dennison where 2 more were born Josiah 1812 Jessie Jr. 1815.

 

Grandfather Foster Jessie died 1816 built the loghouse I was born in 24x32ft. Jessie framed S.E. corner Isaac Holmes one corner Henry Bidinger one corner and Hugh McDunna one corner.

Katy born 1796 married Robert Mcpherson 1817 had one child John.

 

Samuel born 1798 Married widow Johnston maiden name Martha Wheeler 1818 had 7 children Henry-Sarah-(Meek) - Jessie - Malinda - William - Elias and Isaac. Then in 1833 married Annie Johnston then moved to Van Wert Ohio had several children then died in 1846. Unkle Ben and Aunt Bella died the same year.

 

John born 1800 (died of paralyses 1875) married Anna Teeples in 1828 had 3 children George-Rachel and Sally.

 

Moses born Jan 1 1802 married Peree Kale 1823 had 12 children Sally B1825-
Mary Anne-B-1829-Reuben J. 1828- Rachel E.-1829-George R-1831-Rebecca-1833-John C.-1835-Peree A.-1841-Moses-B-(?) Jessie Millard-1845-David Franklin-1847-Luella J.-1850 (died 1881 Moses Mother Peree in 1890)

 

Arron foster born 1804 Married Susa Nickelson in 1833 one Son born to them George Washington. Aaron died 1849.

 

Benjamin born 1799 Married Nancy Shoeman 1820 had 5 children Harrison-Nathaniel-Malinda-Lemuel-Mary and died in 1846.

 

Elizabeth born 1806 Married Hugh Little 1826. Children born to them Patrick-Aaron-(George Washington-Andrew Jackson Twins) Absalom-Roseann. Died 1837

 

Josiah born 1812 Married Rebeca Johnston 1829 had 8 children. Polly-Rachel-Joseph-Emaily-Able-David-John-Sally then married a Widow in 1850 had 4 children and died 1856.

 

Sally born 1807 Married Ben Vanattor in 1822 had 2 children James and John.
