"Rose Marie Springman, Around Mason, Ohio: A Story (Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio: C. J. Krehbiel Co., 1982), p. 22.
"Elizabeth Linn Schenck died on May 30 at the age of 35 and was buried at Unity Cemetery. Her husband, John R. Schenck, lived another eleven years and then was buried at her side. On his tombstone was inscribed the verse:
"Tis finished, the conflict is past,
The heaven born spirit is fled,
His wish is accomplished at last,
He now is entombed with the dead."

Goretty Wikoff
died Aug. 26, 1830
aged 27 years 5 months 4 days
  • worn stone - inscription partly from Warren County Cemetery Records Volume 6 which lists name as Goretty Monfort Wikoff wife of Peter Wikoff
  • The year of death is listed elsewhere (see below) as 1836. The last digit is no longer legible in the photo. If her husband is the same Peter Wikoff who married Elizabeth Clements, that marriage occurred 10 Mar 1831.
  • The Dallas Bogan article on the Monfort Family has her date of death listed at 16 Aug 1836
  • Judy Simpson 16 Jun 2012 email provided the following:
"Rose Marie Springman, Around Mason, Ohio: A Story (Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio: C. J. Krehbiel Co., 1982), p. 22.
    "1836
"On August 26 Gertrude Monfort Wikoff died at the age of 27 after giving birth to a son who died with her. She had married Peter Wikoff at the age of 13 in 1821. Exactly one month after Gertrude’s death, her two daughters, Catherine, age 14, and Helen, age 8, died also and were buried next to their mother. One son, Peter M., survived to adulthood. Gertrude had been born in New Jersey and came with her parents, Peter and Ellen Monfort, to Deerfield Township in 1816. She was buried at Unity Cemetery and her gravestone was inscribed, “Goretty Wikoff.” The name, which she was probably called by all her life, derived from the strong Holland background of both her family and the Wikoffs. Her husband, Peter, later married Elizabeth Clemens and had eight more children. "
