Jared Adams
died June 14, 1863
aged 37 years 5 months 20 days
[Civil
War Veteran]
9 Mar 2009 email from Michael
Ford :
"Jared Adams was born in Edwardsville in Salem township on 25
December 1825, the son of Thomas Adams (1790-1854) & Clarinda
Haight (1788-?). On 1 May 1853 he married Hannah Jackson (1833-1912)
in Warren County. In the 1860 census he and Hannah are living in Blanchester
with his son Pierce Adams (1855-1924) and daughter Eva Adams (1857-1894).
Another daughter Allie Adams (1861-1900) would be born in 1861. From
the records I have been able to find, Jared Adams enlisted as a musician
in Company G of the 6th Ohio Infantry on 20 Apr 1861. He was mustered
out of that regiment on 21 Aug 1861. On 17 Aug 1861 he enlisted in
Company F of the 34th Ohio Infantry Regiment as a Private and then
on 2 Sep 1861 he was promoted to Full Fife Major. I have found no
direct record showing a discharge from the 34th Ohio. In the 1890
Veterans Schedules of the Census, his widow Hannah in Blanchester
indicates that Jared had enlisted 23 Aug 1861 as a musician in the
34th Ohio and had been discharged on 13 Sep 1862 and that he did not
suffer from a disability (see attached). According to accounts I have
found, the 34th Ohio fought severe engagements at Fayettesille and
Charleston, (West) Virginia in Sep 1862 after which it was returned
to garrison duty at Point Pleasant, (West) Virginia. Jared Adams died
14 Jun 1863 and is buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Hannah Adams
filed a pension application as a widow & as a guardian"
