When Emma Hoff, wife of Reuben A. Hoff died, leaving an infant one week old, she took him into her care and became the only mother Walter ever knew. Walter E. Bowyer (1894-1939)

LEADING BANKER IS NATIVE OF WARREN
Walter E. Bowyer, native of Foster, Died at Troy Recently

MASON - The death of Walter E. Bowyer, 66, for twenty-five years president of the First-Troy National Bank and Trust Company, Troy, Ohio, is of concern to persons of this vicinity who remember him as a native of Foster, Ohio, and a brother of the late Ed Bowyer. Mr. Bowyer died on Saturday March 11, of a heart ailment.
Mr. Bowyer spent his boyhood near Foster. In 1894 he entered upon his duties with the Troy National Bank as bookkeeper, the bank at that time employing but four persons and growing during his forty-five years of association with the bank to its present position of a leading institution.
Mr. Bowyer served fourteen years as a member of the Troy board of education, being president during the erection of the Van Cleve high school; served for many years until illness forced retirement, as president of the board of directors of the Stouder hospital; served as a member of the city sinking fund board of trustees for many years; was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Troy, of which he was at one time president; was a member of the Troy First Presbyterian church, for which he served as treasurer for thirty years; was a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine at Dayton; and was financially interested in many industries of Troy, being one of the founders of the Hobart Manufacturing Company.
Of particular interest to Mr. Bowyer were young men, many of whom he assisted in getting a start along the lines of their ambitions.
Mr. Bowyer was united in marriage with Miss Charlotte Thompson in 1896, who with their only child, Mrs. David Meeker, one brother Leslie Bowyer, of Loveland, three grandchildren, and nephews and nieces of whom Mrs. Charles Bloom, lately of Mason, Mrs. Fulton Cain, of Norwood, and Mrs. Howard Ayres, of Arizona, are well known in Mason, survive him.
