Peter Boyd.
Peter Boyd, one of the oldest and best known of the Shakers
at Union Village died on Sunday in the eighty-third year of his age,
of an affliction of the heart with which he had been troubled for years.
He was born in Butler county. August 28. 1806. The following year his
parents, Daniel and Anna Boyd, moved to Union Village, and joined the
United Society of Shakers. The boy grow up among the brethren and his
entire life was spent there. In his younger years he worked at the shoe-maker's
trade, but his executive and managing abilities soon advanced him to positions
of trust, and he held nearly all the offices of the society. For many
years past he was one the trustees of the four families. The funeral services
were held at Union Village on Tuesday, in accordance to the customs of
the Society.
