SAMUEL C. KERSEY

Samuel C. Kersey, son of Henry and Mary Jane Kersey, was born March 14, 1844, near Oregonia, Warren County, Ohio, and departed this life August 28, 1920; aged 76 years, 5 months and 14 days.
On October the 9, 1867, he was united in marriage to Mary H. Perrine, to this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter, all of whom survive him, besides these there remains one half brother, Howard Jeffery, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren together with a large number or relatives and friends to mourn his departure.
August 6, 1862, he enlisted in Company A, 79th regiment O.V.I. and served three years, or during the remainder of the war, being promoted to Corporal, May 19, 1864. At Cassville, Georgia while the regiment was under heavy fire, he participated in numerous heavy engagements, was with General Sherman on the memorable march to the sea, after which he participated in the siege of the Carolinas and marched by way of Pittsburg to Washington, D.C. where he marched in the grand review in that city; being mustered out of the service June 9, 1865; at the time of his death he was a member of Granville Thurston Post No. 213, G. A. R., also of the Lebanon Farmers Grange.
Aside from the time spent in the service of his country his entire life was spent in Warren County. He was a farmer by profession and followed that occupation until February, 1919, when he retired from farm life and came to Lebanon, where he resided at the time of his death
