Joseph Reeder (12 Dec 1839 - 15 Feb 1862)

Death of a Brave Soldier
We regret to announce that Joseph H. Reeder, son of Geo. W. Reeder, of this vicinity, was killed at the bombardment of Fort Donelson.  He was a member of Co. A 11th Indiana Regiment, and was residing with his uncle at Liberty, Indiana, at the time of his enlistment. He was in the 23d year of his age.  His parents had, but a few days ago, received a letter from him, stating that he was well; and now they are called upon to mourn his sudden death.  His afflicted parents have the sympathies of this community in this their sad bereavement.  He was a brave soldier, and died at his post, battling for liberty.

"Sweet sleep the brave who sink to rest
With all their country's wishes blest."
