Timothy Titus
Timothy Titus was born September 13, 1826 in Clinton
County, Ohio on the Clarksville and Cuba road not far from Villars Chapel
as it is now. When a young man he learned the blacksmith trade and when
in those days he sought the nuptial bower and was married to Miss Catharine
Hall September 7, 1848. He with his happy wife tailed [sic] on
for years until the breaking out of the rebellion found them with a family
of eight small children but with his noble spirit for his country he enlisted
in the seventy-ninth Regiment
O. V. I. under General Sherman for about two and one-half years after
which he was honorably discharged. They lived to celebrate their sixty-second
wedding anniversary and on the 6th of May 1911 the mother passed away,
and on March 22, 1912 the father passed on to the other shore. To this
union were born 12 children eight of whom survive. Also there are 31 grandchildren
and 18 great grandchildren.
Early in life he became a member of the Free Will Baptist church but since
1887 had been connected with the M. E. church. The influence of his earnest
Christian life has been of untold benefit to all his loved ones and all
who knew will always remember him for his goodness and kindness which
was a result of having lived close to his Savior. The sufferings of the
latter months of his life were borne with great fortitude.
