Roster Commission, Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion, 1861-1866, Vol. XI. (Akron, OH: The Werner Ptg. and Mfg. Co., 1887), page 625
" This regiment was organized from May 5, 1864, to March 23, 1865, at Camp Chase, Ohio. The Regiment, at the organization, was formed by the re-enlistment of members of the Fourth and Fifth Independent Cavalry Battalions (six-months' organization) and recruits from different parts of the State, at large. From its organization until December 18, 1864, the Regiment acted as Infantry, on that day the men were armed and equipped as Cavalry and served as such until mustered out. The Regiment was mustered out of service August 10, 1865, at Petersburg, Va., in accordance with orders from the War Department.
The following is a list of battles, in which this Regiment bore an honorable part, in the compilation of which reference has been made to the Official Army Register, Paft V, page 20, and other sources during the preparation of this work:

Nathaniel was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for recapturing the Regimental flag at Petersburg at the age of 15. Wounds received while doing so resulted in the amputation of his arm. He is buried in Union Hill Cemetery in Jackson County, Missouri. See photo of gravestone

L	Sergeant	POW	Nathan Wood	At the beginning of the war he enlisted in the 12th OVI and then the 13th OVC. At Princeton, Va, he was taken prisoner ands spent three months in Libby prison. He was exchanged and entered the 1st U. S. Cavalry and served to near the close of the war, when he was severely wounded in the arm.

Troop M, 13th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry

This Company was organized May, 1865, at Amelia C. H., Va., by Joseph G. Strahl. No record of muster in found.
