      "Melvin Bruce, F 2/c, U.S.N.R., was reported missing in action this week according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Mayme Bruce Hetzler, of Franklin.  Burce, who enlisted in the Navy November, 1942, is but 17 years old but had been on active sea duty for the past several months.
      "The telegram received by Mrs. Hetzler Wednesday morning read: "The Navy Department deeply regrets to inform you that your son , Melvin Bruce, F 2/c is missing in action in the performance of his duty in the service of his country.  Details are not now available"
      "The lad's father, Corp. John Bruce, is serving in the Army and is now on maneuvers in Louisiana.  His paternal grandmother, Mrs. Martha Bruce, resides on Allen Street."
