His plane was perfectly ditched in the Mediterranean' sea, in the bay of La Ciotat, located between Toulon and Marseille, on the French Riviera. His wingman, the S/Lt James G. Riley, 21 years old, married, of New York, was also shot down and unfortunately killed at the same time, in the same conditions, and in the same bay of La Ciotat (three nautical miles separate the two wrecks of their plane which were discovered and formally indentified, not far of the Frenches coast. Men and machines belonged to the 15th USAAF, 14th Fighter Group.
