" . . . Well known in Lebanon, Lt. Donald Irons was serving
with the U. S. Army Intelligence in France when killed on July 10.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Irons of Sewickley, suburb of Pittsburgh,
Pa., he was an honor graduate of Ohio University where he was a
member of the national honorary fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. He is
reported to have invented a device for inding land mines now in
use by the army. Lt. Irons spent many summers visiting relatives
here."

" The body of Lt. Donald
H. Irons, aged 22, who was killed in action in Normandy on July
8, 1944, while serving in the U. S.
Army, arrived at the Oswald Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon.
"Brief services will be held at the funeral home at 3 p. m.
Friday in charge of the Rev. J. Taylor McHendry. Military services,
in charge of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be held at the grave
in Lebanon Cemetery.
"Lt. Irons is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Irons of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, formerly of Lebanon, and a sister,
Mrs. Donald Thomas of Sewickley, Pennsylvania."
