Hough writes:
"The lives of William (1828-1904) and Thomas Watkinson(1837-1911)
paralleled each other through many experiences. They emigrated from England
about 1849 with their parents and brothers, and settled near Waynesville,
Ohio. The brothers William and Thomas married sisters Maria and Elizabeth
Jane Southern whose family had come from England in 1848. The brothers
served together in the Civil War in Company
H, 79th Ohio.
"Separately they moved to Iowa—Thomas in
1868 and William in 1875. And finally in 1884 they both moved to Nebraska
and gained land by homesteading.
"Henry Watkinson (1839-1915) moved from Ohio
to Iowa where he remained when his two older brothers went to Nebraska.
