Old Newspaper
The Birmingham Community News was a weekly publication in the interest of church, school and other community activities according to its masthead. A copy of June 20, 1916 edition contains some choice news items. One is:
"Sometime ago a couple of young ladies traveling through Birmingham on the interurban line, as the car stopped at the station, one of the ladies asked if this was Birmingham. When assured that it was, she said this is the little town where they eat so much ice cream.
Evidently she was an employee in the Telling Ice Cream Co. and helped to make the cream for our town and thought from the size of the town that we were consuming more than our share."
The Telling Ice Cream Company, later Telling Belle Vernon Co., was a Cleveland operation and became a large corporation before it was merged into the National Dairy Products Company, now part of the gigantic American Home Products Corporation.
