A New Years Greeting
to the Advertisers of the
Independent Press
by an Old Settler
Once more a year has passed its usual way
Once more we hail the happy New Year day
Joy to the young and man of middle days.
Still fresh in hope, Still emulous of praise
And joy to those for whom the hand of time
Has left no relic of departed time.
Harris and Baldwim keep the store
The Post Office inside the door,
The largest stock of goods they keep
Their prices too, are wondrous cheap.
Vanfleet Brothers are doing well,
Plenty of goods they have to sell,
With stoves of patterns very fine,
And tins and drugs, a good full line.
Passow and Arnold, one door west,
Keeps clothing and dry goods, the best,
Besides they keep (this is no joke.)
The best cigars for those who smoke.
