A meeting, with discussion of plans for the 1929 season program of the Wakeman Baseball Club, has been held by officials of the organization. C. E. Bement who has been actively interested in baseball for a number of years was appointed a member of the Board of Directors to fill an executive vacancy left open from last year. With George Brumby’s acceptance as Club manager, other officers will retain the same positions as previously held: G. A. Garber and P. D. Cooley as Directors; C. A. Todd, Secretary and Treasurer, G. T. Scutt, Business Manager and B. J. Filkins, Club Statistician. Manager B. J. Filkins has a likeable personality fairly oozing with color, is well known in this baseball section, and with last year’s outfit handled very capably, will no doubt prove to be a great field Captain for the Red Caps.
C. S. Clark, Sr., Honorary President, who graciously gave the club a complete set of major league quality haberdashery, presided at the meeting. His suggestion of a new roof erected over the grandstand was approved by all and steps will be taken to make this important park improvement a realty before opening day.
Several players will not be back in blue uniforms this Spring because of their inability to show any great amount of offensive punch with the ash at the plate throughout last season. However three big hit and run men playing with neighboring teams in 1928 that the Red Caps have been sweet on have all returned their signed acceptance to invitations to join hands as members of the local squad. The names of these players will be announced shortly after the Spring players meeting to be held in the near future.
Along with the aforesaid trio and those to be retained from last year, quite a few letters have been written to club requesting tryouts. With good evidence of plenty of material, Manager Brumbys’ only worry seems to be selection of quality.
While the team was very well patronized both at home and abroad last year, this seasons’ policy will show very nearly a complete schedule at the home park. Some of the best semi-pro baseball clubs from Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, Mansfield, Barberton, Lorain, Cuyahoga Falls and Sandusky will be included on the bookings.
Capable, impartial umpires have been signed and weather permitting sufficient early spring practice, the schedule will open on May 19th.

Expecting Big Things From
Johnny Gray, Clouter.
WAKEMAN, APRIL 9 - When the Wakeman Red Caps trot out on their diamond on opening day, May 19, there will be several new men, dressed in the blue and white uniforms of the club, in the lineup.
One of the directors last year stopped in a town to watch an exhibition game. In four times to the plate, one of the visiting members collected three circuit clouts and one three-timer off from two opposing pitchers.
Somewhere between second and third this same big boy will probably romp for Wakeman in 1929. Then again you might find him as a hurler or chasing flies in the garden, for he is a versatile chap. Johnny Gray, for that is his name, tips the scales at 187 and hails from Ashland, Ohio. Besides playing Sunday semi-pro ball all over Ohio, he made the interesting season batting average last year of a few points below .400 in the Mansfield Inter-City Industrial League.
To make sure that no stone had been left unturned to give the team the needed offensive power, the Red Moguls have secured the services of Beany Kelble and Burdett Aldrich. The former has never failed to give a good account of himself while playing against the locals in past seasons. Beany swings a mean ash from the portside of the plate and is an excellent fielder with plenty of color.
Aldrich was with the Lody City Club a year ago and made quite a reputation for himself. He is a very capable performer and will probably be tried at short unless Don Bryant, the regular hot corner star from Oberlin, fails to return. With Bryant’s return he will move to short.
Officials believe this to be a banner attendance year and they have accordingly secured materials to build an addition to the grandstand.

______
WAKEMAN, O., June 8. - The Wakeman Red Cap officials have looked over enough material this season to make an eight team league in search of twelve men who "know their baseball". Last week the twelve players were decided upon. Last Sunday Harold Duncan was placed on the mound for a tryout. Striking out ten in six innings, allowing one scratch hit, and only twenty men facing him, his name was signed on the club’s roster for the season. Two years ago, with a signed contract in his pocket to go with Decatur in the Three I League, Duncan injured his throwing arm in an auto accident and has been out of semi-pro baseball since. With Duncan joining the pitching staff, the Red Caps have two southpaw hurlers. With the exception of Jimmie Keenan, former member of the Pittsburgh Nationals and now tossing for the Lorain Eagles in the Cleveland Triple A Suburban League, Wakeman Red Caps have in Duncan and A. Bartlome, without question, two of the best left handed mound men in northwestern Ohio independent circles.
Another player in the lineup with a new uniform is "Nip" Taylor. His heavy hitting and consistent playing with Jim Thorpe’s Larue Indians two years ago and with the Marion A. C’s last season has made him a popular drawing card with the fans. Taylor will probably take charge of the initial sack for the Red Caps.
Next Sunday, Tusko former Pittsburgh Pirate pitcher, will hurl for the Snodgrass Drugs of Lorain against Wakeman at the Red Caps park. The Drugs have won 25 in 29 games the last two years and are now tied with the Nativities for Class "A" championship of Lorain.
