Mansfield Commits 11 Errors. Loses, 9 to 5, in

Wakeman District Semi-Pro Meet

Eddie KrajnikWAKEMAN – Taking advantage of 11 errors, the Chagrin Cardinals scored a 9-5 triumph over the Mansfield Herricks to earn a place in the finals of the National Semi-Pro Baseball Congress district tournament.

The Cardinals will meet the winner of Thursday’s game between the Gypsum Sheetrocks and the Sandusky Amburns for the district title. The finals will be played Friday under Wakeman’s lights, the winner and runner-up becoming eligible to compete in the state tournament at Canton later in the month.

Mansfield held a 3-2 lead in the second but their errors began catching up with them to aid Chagrin’s 11 hits. Sterans hit for the circuit and Ganaway had a triple.

Wins Second Game

Thompson, Cardinal hurler who won his second game of the tournament, struck out 16 and walked three, giving up seven hits. Beer started for Mansfield but was relieved by Kanckstedt in the second.

Gypsum, Chagrin Meet

_____

Play for District Title Tonight in Last Round of

Semi-Pro Baseball Congress

(By Staff Correspondent)

WAKEMAN – Chagrin Falls Cardinals and the Gypsum Sheetrocks clash tonight under the lights of Redcap field with the district title of the National Semi-pro Baseball Congress at stake.

The Sheetrocks earned the right to battle the Cardinals for the crown last night when they rallied in the first of the eighth to score two runs to take a 3-2 triumph in one of the most thrilling games of the tournament from Sandusky Amburns.

Again it was errors that had a lot to do with the final outcome, the Sandusky team being charged with four. Larizza hit for the circuit.

Both Go to Canton

Regardless of which team wins tonight, both will become eligible for the state tournament to be held at Meyers Lake in Canton next week. Large Honus Wagner trophies will go to the winners. One of the largest crowds in the history of the field is expected tonight.
