Linda Stewart, leastewart@yahoo.com, April 4, 2000 - GIBBENS - JOBES - MUNDAY/MUNDY

My great grandfather, Andrew Jackson GIBBENS, was born in Nov 1844 in Bronson, Branch Co, MI. He lived in Williams Co, OH with his parents Frederick GIBBENS and Ann (FERRIER) GIBBENS in 1860. He joined the Civil War in Michigan City, IN. He married Elizabeth JOBES in 1867 in Camden, Hillsdale Co, MI. He had a child, Francis, in 1868 (I don't know if this is a male or female). He had a daughter, Bertha, in 1872. They were born in either Williams Co, OH or Hillsdale Co, MI.

Elizabeth and Andrew were divorced in 1877 in Williams Co, OH. The next I know of him was in 1879 when he married Adella R. TAYLOR, daughter of Dr. James Bishop TAYLOR and Sarah Pricilla HALL, in Williams Co, OH. He was living with Della and Bertha in 1880 according to the census for Williams Co, OH. They must have been divorced (Della didn't die until 1903) but Andrew remarried in 1884 in DeKalb Co, IN. He married Martha Jane HENDRICKS, daughter of Samuel King HENDRICKS and Martha Jane PRICHARD.

Martha and Andrew moved to Smith Co, KS where my grandfather, Verne GIBBENS, and his brother, Henry GIBBENS, were born. They moved to Campbell, Franklin Co, NE where he lived until his death in 1904. Bertha died in her teens.

Frederick, Andrew's father, lived in Edon, Williams Co, OH until his death. He was listed on the 1870 Williams Co, OH census as being married to Sarah MUNDAY, widow of John MUNDAY. They were married in 1863. They had a son, Jefferson GIBBENS, in 1866. Also living with them was a son of John and Sarah MUNDAY, George MUNDY (this is how it was spelled on the census). Frederick is buried in West Buffalo Cemetery and Ann in Leggett Cemetery (it used to be named Gibbens Cemetery because he donated land for the cemetery.)

Do you have any information about Andrew GIBBENS, Frederick GIBBENS, Francis GIBBENS, John MUNDAY, Sarah MUNDAY, Elizabeth JOBES or Jefferson GIBBENS? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Linda Wilbur, lwilbur@dmci.net, April 23, 2000 - HOLLINGSHEAD, etc.

I desperately need vital data and family information for a William   HOLLINGSHEAD. This William was married to Louisa MYRINDA on 26 November, 1810 or 1820 in Athens Co., OH. He went to Jackson Co., OH (where one Daniel Hollingshead sold him some land in 1816), then to Williams Co.,

OH.  According to my source, he is supposed to have died in Williams Co. in 1841.  She also says that he was a War of 1812 veteran.. One of his probable children was my great-great grandfather, Nathaniel Hollingshead. Nathaniel married Charlotte SPAKE 10 November, 1849 in Williams Co.  I feel that I am on the right track as Louisa Hollenshead, age 77, was living with Nathaniel and his family in the 1870 census for Camden, Hillsdale Co., MI.  I have had a very difficult time finding parents for Nathaniel because - even though he died in 1893 - there seems to be no existing Michigan death record for him. Any assistance anyone can give me with this thorny genealogical problem would be greatly appreciated. I will also share what I have on the family with any interested party.
