I'm researching my gggrandfather's family, his name was William Cowden. Verbal family history states that his father was George Cowden, although I haven't yet found documentation of that. I do have the following info which puts my William Cowden in Wood Co. (specifically Freedom Twp.).
The Mormon Church in Salt Lake City has record of William & Susan's marriage. Batch #M513461, Dates 1820-1867, Source Call #0409699 V. 1-4, 4B, Type: Film:
William Cowden md. 07AUG1856 Wood, Ohio to Susana Adams
1850 Census - Freedom Tp., Wood Co., OH - #1113/1137
Cowden, Mary 55y PA
, Hezekiah 22y OH
, William 15y OH
, Mary 12y OH
1860 OH Census - Freedom Twp., Wood Co., OH
Cowden, George 46y Farmer 3000/500 PA
, Sarah A. 33y NY
, A(unreadable) 11y OH Female
, George 10y OH
, Jeremiah(?) 02 OH
Cowden, William 26y Farmer 1500/100 OH
, Susan 24 Farmer 1500/100 OH
, Mary 02y OH
In addition, there is a land patent on file for Hezekiah Cowden, the land was located in Isabella Co., MI. William & Susan (Adams) Cowden later relocated to Isabella Co., MI. It doesn't appear that Hezekiah spent amount of time in Isabella Co., MI due to the lack of documentation of him. I do know that Hezekiah is enumerated in the 1880 Freedom Twp., Wood Co., OH census as living with his brother, George Cowden.
I hope that I've provided enough documentation for the surname registry.
