The immigrant ancestors of my Kester family came to America about 1700.
They settled in Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
They came from Kaldenkirchen, presently located in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
This town is located near Krefeld, Germany.
The immigrant ancestors were Paulus and Gertrude (Doors) Kusters.
The original spelling of the last name was Kuester.
In the original spelling the ue was umlaut u.
The name came from their occupation which meant sexton

These are in a hinged frame. One half of the frame holds the photo of Jason Kester and the other half of the frame holds the photo of his wife, Sarah Minerva (Porter) Kester. Jason carried these photos with him during his term in the Civil War. My late cousin, Marie Suehl, had the photographs and loaned them to me so a copy could be made.-Loren Kester |
