Union School house Then and Now |
Union School that was located at the east end of Johnston St, built in
1850 and was attended by virtually everybody of that period in town and the
surrounding area. The bricks from it were used to build the house that
presently may be seen there, and the house immediately south of that brick
house is original.
Joseph Midlam died after striking a pile of bricks when he fell from the
roof of that school in 1853. He was doing repairs and slipped; he is buried
in Old Mission, as are his wife and a son |
Joseph and Martha Freeborn Midlam, he, the one who fell from Union School,
and she his wife who lived in till 1892. Joseph was born 1788 in PA, and
Martha in 1798 in VT. They are G-G-Gparents of mine.

Taken in 1885, are Maggie Belle Carner Midlam (1867-1956, on the right in
this pic), she later the wife of William L. Midlam (1866-1950), both of
Upper Sandusky and lived just east of the Union School and on the east side
of the river. I can not right now remember who is with Maggie, but I will
hunt that up and tell you |
