Note from Bill Good: I found the reference letter from Blanche Balliet. There is no date on the photocopy . But my cousin says that ” … Blanche Balliett, who was a local historian that lived in Wyandot County and that she had grown up very near the Burkes Cemetery. Blanche wrote saying that in the early 1960's a number of the stones had been removed from the cemetery and were found in a nearby creek. That they were recovered and replaced in the cemetery, according to one of the earliest records of burials in the cemetery (this might have been a WPA list). So it is unknown at what point that the stones of Joanna and Phoebe were placed the way they are today, but it was done before that list was recorded….”
Ms. Balliet’s letter starts out ….Mon A.M……..…….A year ago last Halloween some boys or men went in the Cemetery and Tore markers apart in Sections and the high top of my Grandmothers took it a mile away and laid it across Spooks Bridge. They broke so many slab markers and so badly they couldn’t be put together. I said, “They can’t even leave the dead alone” A terrible thing to do……………and ends
