Kear Cemetery

Note from: Mary Lou Kohl: " I notice it said there were bases only (no stones) at the Kear cemetery in Tymochtee township.  That's not correct.  I was just there this past July.  My G,G,G,G and G,G,G grandparents are buried there--Cyprian & Olive (Lee) Stevens and Moses & Henrietta (Ogg) Stevens.  Peter Kear owned the land the cemetery is on.  Cyprian Stevens owned the land right next to him.  I believe they simply shared the cemetery.  I just thought I would let you know.  I will send some photos of graves for this cemetery and others later.  I am attaching a photo of Peter Kear's headstone for you"

Update from Mary Lou (Oct 2001): Here is the Kear Cemetery spreadsheet. I took the info from the Wyandot County, Ohio Cemetery Burial Record book put together by the Col. Wm. Crawford Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. I am also attaching a photo of the cemetery itself. Directions to the cemetery are as follows: Tymochtee Township. Situated 0.8 mile north of St. Rt. 103, east on Co. Rd. 107. You can not see the cemetery from Co. Rd. 107. You have to turn right up a lane just before a house. There are no signs for this cemetery.

Here's a bit of history in regards to the cemetery. This land was originally settled by Peter Kear. He purchased three different sections of 80 acres of land (total of 240 acres). He purchased all the sections at different times: 26 Dec 1821, 1 Apr 1822, and 14 Apr 1824. He was a neighbor to my G,G,G,G Grandparents Cyprian Stevens and Olive (Lee) Stevens. They are buried here as well as my G,G,G Grandparents Moses and Henrietta (Ogg) Stevens. To the best of my knowledge the Kear and Stevens Families were simply neighbors and no relation to each other. More info from Garry V Kear (Nov 2002): "I am the GGGG grandson of Peter Kear. It was stated in the history of the cemetery that Cyprian and Olive Stevens were only neighbors of Peter. Not true! Olive was a sister of Peter. Catherine was also a sister. They are both buried here. The cemetery was family. Hope this will add to the clarification of the history. I have additional information on the folks buried there. I have been to the cemetery as well. A beautiful and peaceful resting place"
