McCurtain Co: Broken Bow

January 22, 1931

Mrs L.A. Teal Died January 3
Mrs L. A. TEAL, aged 79 years, one of McCurtain County's best known elderly ladies, died at the home of Mrs. F. E. REED at Eagletown, ten miles east of Broken Bow, Saturday, Janurary 3rd. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.J. Land. Burial was made at Eagletown Cemetary.
Deceased, who was a widow of the late L. A. Teal, was a splendid lady of the old Southern gentlewoman whose life's pleasures were gained through service to others, and was known for her many acts of kindness.
She is survived by six children, as follows: John COUCH, Clinton, Texas, Quince >Couch, Eagletown; Tom Couch; Mrs. B. A. ELSER of Long Beach, California; >Mrs Rosa KNIGHT, of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Mrs. F. E. REED of Eagletown, with whom she made her home.
The News joins in expressions of deepest sympathy for the bereaved relatives.

Willie Lee FRAZIER, Sr. of Broken Bow, age 69, died Wednesday in DeQueens, Arkansas Community Hospital. He was born March 12, 1912 in Idabel, he has resided in Broken Bow area most of his life. He was a longtime worker for Pine Telephone Co..
He is survived by his wife, Erma J., two sons, Fezell of Compton, CA. and Willie Lee, Jr. of OK City; Eight daughters, Willie B. Carter, Sandra Carter, Juanita Frazier, Marilyn Cotton, Sherri Hopkins, Wanda Young, Katherine Frazier, and Jeana Frazier. One brother, Theodis Frazier of Victorville, CA.
Burial at Lukfata Cemetery under the direction of Blandon Westside Mortuary of Idabel.

Ruby CANTERBY Funeral Services
Ruby CANTERBY, 72, of Bethel, were at 2 pm. Tuesday in Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy McCAIG officiating. Burial in Bethel Cemetery was under direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Broken Bow.
Ms. CANTERBY died Saturday at Bethel.
Born Nov. 3, 1916, she had resided at Bethel most of her life. She was a retired school teacher, having taught at North Bethel, Sherwood and Battiest schools. She is survived by a sister, Floy.

Howard COX, Died May 5
Howard COX, 69, Broken Bow, died Friday at McCurtain Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 2 pm. Monday in the Norwood Chapel in Broken Bow, and burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery under the direction of Norwood Funeral Home of Broken Bow.
Born April 9, 1920 at Hochaton, COX had lived most of his life in McCurtain County. He had been a sawmiller and Logger and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice; a daughter; two foster brothers; four foster sisters; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Thursday Wed. June 2, 1989

Lee CUSHER, 73, Of Broken Bow, died Monday at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday in the Nation Chapel with the Rev. Taylor Harjo Officiating. Burial will be int he Broken Bow Cemetery under the direction of Nation Funeral Home of Broken Bow.
Born Oct. 13, 1915 at Beachton, CUSHER had lived in McCurtain County all of his live. He was a laborer, a veteran of World War II and worked in the CCC Program before going into the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Fanie(?) CUSHER, whom he married Oct. 2, 1946 in Idabel. Other survivors include his six sons; Five Daughters. 28 grandchildren and one great-grand child. He is also survived by two brothers and five sisters.

July 1989

Jess CHAPMAN, 73, of Broken Bow died July 17 at the McCurtain Manor Nursing Home. CHAPMAN was born August 12, (no year) at Cove, Arkansas. He lived in McCurtain County most of his life where he worked as a mechanic and rancher. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a past master of the Masonic Lodge #441.
Him and Florence BINGHAM were united in Marriage on June 5, 1937 in Bisbee, Arizona. Survivors include his wife; two sons; one daughter and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10 am. in the Oak Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Randy Jacobs officiating. Rev. Jim Shroyer will be assisting. Burial will be in the Watson Memorial Cemetery in Oak Hill.
