Bixby, Tulsa Co.

September 14, 1917


David Morgan PHILLIPS was born in Adams County, Ohio, March 21, 1855 and died at the St. Joseph hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, September 6th at 11:15 p.m. 1917. His age at the time of his death was 62 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
He was married to Miss Dillie NEWBOWER August 8, 1880 at Miami, Missouri. Of this union four children were born - Charles N., Harry F., Anna Belle and Lucy Florence, who with the wife and three little grand children, two brothers and three sisters - J.W. PHILLIPS of Carrollton, MO., Homer A. PHILLIPS, of Kansas, Missouri,  Mrs. Ella PHILLIPS, of Michigan Valley, Kansas,  Mrs. Allie HERREN, of Carollton, MO., and Mrs. Mantia BRADY of LeRoy, Kansas. All of these relatives are left to mourn his death.
He lived in his native state until the age of 24 years, when he came to Miami, MO., where he lived until 1884. He then moved to Franklin Co. Kansas, and in 1890, he came to Mulhall, Okla. and in 1902, he moved to Bixby, Okla. where he lived until Dec. 18, 1916, when he moved his family to Quitman, Ark.
While living at Mulhall, he gave his heart to God and united with the Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Masonic order and the K. of  P. lodge.
On Aug. 9th, he went to Memphis, Tenn. to visit his aunt Mrs. R.I. HICKS and on the following Sunday he was taken sick, and all that medical aid and nursing could do was done but to no avail.
The body was brought back to Bixby, his old home, and taken to the home of his son, Harry.
The funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church by Rev. J.F. Gardiner. Mr. PHILLIPS was a man very highly esteemed, and the attendance was unusually large, in  fact, no funeral in Bixby has been better attended.
The remains were laid to rest in Bixby cemetery Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, 1917.

Mrs. Sarah KISSEE, wife of Joe KISSEE, died at their home 6 miles east and one fourth mile south of Mounds. Sept. 3, 1917 after a brief illness of only five days.
All that loving hands and medical aid could do was done but nothing could stay the hand of death.
She was laid to rest Sept. 4th in the Duck Creek cemetery to await the resurrection day.
She leaves a husband, two daughters and a host of friends to mourn her loss.


January 1, 1976

Mrs. Martha Lucinda TURNBO died Sunday at the age of 93.  Born March 17, 1882 in Linn, Ma., she was married Jan. 10, (looks like)1908, Tucumcart, N. Mex., to James Fielding TURNBO who preceded her in death in 1951.
They moved to Oklahoma in 1918 and lived in the Jenks, Stillwater and Pawnee areas before moving to Bixby in 1946.
Mrs. Turnbo leaves 112 descendants including seven daughter, Mrs. Fannie VICKREY, Mrs. Mary BLANKENSHIP, Mrs. Jennie STOCKWELL, Mrs. Betha CATHER, Mrs. Viva TUCKER, Mrs. Martha HEAD, and Mrs. Lorene NECESSARY; five sons, Glavis, James, George, Lewis, and A.Z.; one brother, Frank HUFSTEDLER of St. Louis, MO.; three sisters, Mrs. Betty HORN, Mrs. Annie LAND, and Mrs. Melvina MILLER; 29 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Burial was in the Park Grove Cemetery under the direction of Leonard Funeral Home.

March 30, 1995

James F. TURNBO, Jr. was born Nov. 7, 1913, to James F. and Martha L.(HUFSTEDLER) TURNBO. He died March 24, 1995, at his home in Bixby. He was 81 years of age.
He is survived by three sisters, Viva TUCKER, Betha CATHERS, and Lorene NECESSARY; two brothers, George and A.Z. . James was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Services were under the direction of Leonard and Marker Funeral Home of Bixby.

Diccie Jewell COLE, was born Jan. 5, 1922, at Cowta. She was the daughter of Bernie Green COLE and Alta Ann BRIDGES COLE. She died in Tulsa on March 26, 1995. She was 73.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wesley COLE.
She is survivied by three sisters, Pauline ROLAND, Fern SHARP, and Ruth JARMAN.

Dorothy Mae EVANS, was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Bixby to John T. and Jewel A. (PEEVYHOUSE) YOUNG. she died March 21, 1995, in Tulsa at age 58.

Opal B. MOSS, wife of W. Bexter Moss Jr., died March 22, 1995 in Naples, Fla.

Lois "Loretta" PEIRCE,  was born May 7, 1932, in Roosevelt to Joseph B. and Leona STAFFORD, and she died March 15, 1995.
She married Henry Pierce on Oct. 16, 1960 in Altus.. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Benjamin "Dutch" STAFFORD.
