James E. DEES
November 24, 1873-April 3, 1941

James E. DEES was born in Dublin, Erath, Texas, November 24, 1873 and was 67 years of age at the time of his death. He departed this life, April 3, 1941.
He was married to Rhoda Ellen GREEN of Erath Co. TX, December 26, 1894. He came to Oklahoma in 1902 and settled in Greer County. In 1906 he came to Beckham County and he and his family have made their home near Sayre ever since.
Mr. DEES was loved by all his friends and was a Christian and member of the Free Will Baptist Church.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife and five children: Mrs. Estle HILLEY of Sayre, Mrs. Allie CARTER of Sayre, Mrs. Myrtle WARD of Skellytown, Tex.; two sons, Bill and Arlene DEES of Sayre: one sister, Mrs. Nora KUYKENDALL of Yuma, Ariz. and a host of friends.
Two daughters proceeded him in death, Mrs. Hattie STROUD and Grace DEES.

Milton HILLEY Rites Are Held On Tuesday
April 28, 1887-April 26, 1956
Final rites for Milton Barto HILLEY, retired farmer and rancher, were held Tuesday at the West Side Baptist Mission. HILLEY, an early settler, came to Western Oklahoma around 1908 and settled near Willow. In 1926 he moved to his farm near Sayre and had lived in and near Sayre since. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. S. E. HILLEY. Three daughters and seven sons. His wife and three children preceded him in death.
Interment was in the Delhi Cemetery with the Moore Funeral Home in charge.

Dear Santa Claus,
I am a little old lady, soon will be 89 years old. I have lived in Beckham County since 1915 until 2 1/2 years ago. I am now making my home with a granddaughter and family, Mrs. Mart PARKER, Route 2, Abilene, TX.
I would like to receive anything from cards to gifts of any kind from anyone who knows me.

Final Rites for Mrs. Hilley are slated Wednesday

Final rites for Mrs. Lizzie HILLEY. who died at Abilene, Texas Wednesday in the home of her granddaughter, Zettie, will be held Wednesday at Abilene at 2:30 PM. Mrs. Hilley had made her home with in the Hext Community since 1918 until a few years ago when her health failed and she moved to Abilene to live with her granddaughter. She was proceeded in death by her two sons Jim and Barto HILLEY.

Graveside Funeral Services for Kimberly Richelle ZOWIE, infant daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Richard L. ZOWIE, New Boston, Texas, who died Tuesday at the Sayre Hospital were held Friday, June 18, at 10 a.m in the Delhi Cemetery. The infant died at the Sayre Hospital. Survivors are the parents and one sister, Sabrina Dianne, of the home. Grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. GOADE of OK, Mrs. GIBSON of  CA and Paul ZOWIE of , CA

Robert H. DAVIS, Sweetwater, died Tuesday in Clinton General Hospital following an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 2 PM in the Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Billy COVEY and Rev. Dan BASHAM officiating.
Born November 27, 1908 at Sweetwater, Mr. DAVIS was married to Bethel McARTHUR in 1947. He was a veteran of  WW1 and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors are his wife of the home; One daughter Addie Louise; two sons Johnny Joe and Eli Warren all of the home; two brothers William A. of Elk City, Wesley of Louisville, KY,; three sisters, Esther BLACKBURN Conogo Park, CA, Mrs. Priscilla REY, Stinnett, Texas, Mrs. Verda MEISSNER, Mayfield.
Pallbearers will be O. K. HENSON, Freddie HENSON, Glen RUTHFORD, E. L. FOWLER, Truman ALEXANDER, Clifford WESNER.
Committal will be in the Mulberry Cemetery at Sweetwater with the Savage Funeral Home, Elk City in charge of arrangements

L.E CLANCY, Carter Rites Set Tuesday
Lonzy E CLANCY, Carter, died in Hensleys Nursing Home, Saturday following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 pm in the Carter Church of Christ with Albert Trent, Hollis, and Lendal Bolin, Sayre, ministers, officiating.
Born August 29, 1878 in Clay County, TN, Mr CLANCY moved to Greer Co, TX, in 1900 where he filed on a homestead. In 1902, he married Carrie LORENTZ at Alvord, TX, and they moved to their farm near Willow.
In 1921 he moved to the Taylor community where he lived until 1961. The past two years he has been in the Sayre hospital and Sayre Nursing Home. He has been an active member of the church of Christ since early manhood.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1910, one son, three brothers, three sisters.
Survivors are two daughters, Lena, Flora; two sons, Claude and Marshall; 15 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren.
Interment will be in the Willow cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.

Mrs. Martha BURKS
April 14, 1897-Oct 27, 1974
Mrs. Martha Lee Ellen BURKS, 77, of Sayre, OK formerly of Abilene, who died Sunday morning, Oct 27 in a nursing home there, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 30 in the Elliot-Hamil Chapel of Memories. Born April 14, 1897 in Weedowee, Randolph, AL, she lived in Abilene 35 years and moved to Olney three years ago. She moved to Sayre in June. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons: Guy, Louis L., Bobbie Noel and John D.
Six daughters: Leona, Lottie, Ruth, Deloris, Birtha  and Georgia.
Two stepdaughters: Artie and Zettie. A stepson: Clyde. Two brothers, two sisters, 47 grandchildren and over 100 Great Grandchildren.

Submitters note: Martha Lee Ellen YOUNG was the daughter of John Lewis YOUNG and Nancy Melissa BALL. Her #1 hus: James William HILLEY proceeded her in death in 1944.

Birtha Lee HUGHES

Birtha Lee HUGHES, 61, died Tuesday at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 2 PM Thursday at City Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Born in Sayre, OK, she moved to Abilene in 1939 from Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal. She was the widow of Earl HUGHES Sr.
Survivors include three sons, and a daughter. Four brothers: Lewis HILLEY of Abilene, Bobbie HILLEY of New Castle, Guy HILLEY of CA, and John D HILLEY of Wichita Falls. Four sisters: Georgia WILLIAMS of Baird, Deloris BAKER of CA, Lottie MESSIER and Leona GOADE of Sayre, OK and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. George GOADE  celebrate 50th Anniversary November 15, 1929-November 15, 1979
Sayre--The children of Mr. and Mrs. George GOADE  will host a reception honoring their parents on  their 50th wedding anniversary from 1 to 4 P.M. Sunday, Nov 18.
Mr. and Mrs. GOADE were married November 15, 1929, in Mangum and they have six children--Margaret  BURRIS of Bonaire, GA, Joy ZOWIE of Colby, KS, Rosa Lee GOADE, Martha WEIGHTMAN, Juanita KAPPEL and  Alfred GOADE all of Sayre. They have nine grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the  reception which will be held at Mr. and Mrs. GOADE’S home at 908 North Seventh Street.

TITSWORTH

Services held Nov 27, 1979 Alvah A. TITSWORTH, 55, Manteca, Calif.; son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. D.C. THETFORD , died Nov 25, 1979, in the Veteran’s Hospital in Pal Alto, Calif. following an extended illness. Memorial services were held Nov. 27, at the P. L. Fry and Son Mortuary Chapel in Manteca. Interment was in Park View Cemetery in French Camp. The World War ll Army veteran was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 6311. A native of Oklahoma, he had lived in Manteca 18 years.
TITSWORTH had been a Tracy resident about 10 years, where his mother Artie TITSWORTH and brother Edgar live.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis of Manteca, mother Artie of Tracy, 2 sons Allen and Melvin of Manteca; daughters Donna and Glenna; brothers Lawrence of French Camp, Edgar of Tracy, Troy of Manteca; 1 sister Hazel and several grandchildren.

Otto Willie KAPPEL died Nov 4, 1980 at Sayre. Funeral services will be Thurs, Nov 6 at 2:30 in the Sayre Church of Christ. He was 50 years old.
Mr. KAPPEL was born Aug 7, 1928 at Anthon, Okla. He came from Clinton to Sayre in 1947. He worked for the city of Sayre. He lived in California and Friona, TX before moving back to Sayre in 1961.
He was married June 20, 1951 to Juanita GOADE of Sayre, Okla. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Sayre.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita of the home; one son, Otto Dwayne of the home.
Burial will be in the Lone Oak Cemetery, with Rose Chapel in charge of arrangements.

She died unexpectedly at her home Monday June 2. Burial was in the Restland Cemetery, Olney, TX
Born at Hext, April 4, 1922, Ruth HILLEY had resided at Olney 45 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include 5 sons: 5 sisters Mrs. George GOADE, Mrs. Lottie FRIDAY , Mrs. Georgia WILLIAMS, Mrs. Bertha HUGHES, and Mrs. Deloris BAKER; Guy, Lewis, Bobbie,  and John D HILLEY.
Mrs. George GOADE and son Alfred attended the service.

McARTHUR
George Conner McARTHUR, 86, died March 11, 1991 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were held March 15 in the Mulberry Cemetery, under the direction of the Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.
Mr. McARTHUR, the son of John Elliot and Nancy Emaline (BUTCHER) McARTHUR, was born on Nov 22, 1904 in Sweetwater. He moved to Arizona in 1929 before moving to California, where he worked in the ship yards until after World War ll. He returned to Sweetwater in the early 1980’s before moving to Sayre in 1990 to make his home.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Irene ; two sisters Bethel and Florence and a host of other relatives and friends.

George A. GOADE, 84, of Sayre died Thursday in Sayre Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 PM Saturday at the Delhi Cemetery under direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.
George, son of Charles and Nora GOADE, was born Oct 9, 1907 in Sweetwater. George married Otha Leona HILLEY, Nov 15, 1930 at Mangum.
He was proceded in death by his parents, one son; three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Leona; five daughters; one son; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosa CRANE; Cally ASABELL.

Submitters Note: George Alfred Goade’s parents are: Charles Goade and Nora Ruth Butcher Goade. George and Leona were married Nov 15, 1929. His deceased son: Calvin Marshall Goade. And George only had 2 sisters: Rosa Goade Crane, Copperas Cove, TX and Callie Goade Azbill, Paulden, AZ.

VANZANDT
Funeral services for Ollie VANZANDT were held Friday, February 6, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rose Chapel with Charles TATYREK officiating.
Ollie, the daughter of Ann and Columbus ALLSUP, was born September 22, 1909 in Willow, OK and passed away February 3, 1998 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years, four months and 11 days.
 Ollie attended school at Ocina and in 1924 she married Elzy M. VANZANDT in Willow. They made their home north of Willow where they farmed and ranched.
She was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, one grandson and nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce; four sons, Francis, Wayland, Roy Joe and Dolphus Gene, four grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Interment was in the Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
