Mrs. Will SHEPPARD living in the northwest part of town, died very suddenly Wednesday night. She had been suffering with a goiter but was not thought to be in a serious condition. She died within a few minutes after being taken ill. The funeral was held Thursday evening.
She leaves a husband and seven small children.
Mrs. Mary Ella SHEPPARD CATES, age 79 years, pioneer lady of this city, was found dead in bed here Friday morning at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Audry AKIN, with whom she made her home.
Mrs. CATES was born in Franklin County, Virginia, February 8, 1858. With her husband, A.H. CATES, she moved here in 1900 and has made this her home since. Mr. CATES preceded her in death some three years.
She is survived by three daughters and several grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church Sunday conducted by Rev. BALL, and burial made in the city cemetery.
Mrs. CATES was one of our very highly respected ladies and all extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
Our community has again been made sad by the loss of another well known pioneer lady in the death of Mrs. G.F. SIMMONS, age 81, who died here early Saturday morning after a brief illness with pneumonia.
Mrs. SIMMONS was born December 19th, 1856 at Dresden, Tennessee, and on June 11, 1874, became the wife of George F. SIMMONS who preceded her in death here on October 15, 1928.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church with Rev. J.D. WATKINS, officiating. The pallbearers were grandsons: Floyd BARNES, Joy Lee POYNOR, Raymond SIMMONS, Bobby SIMMONS, Glenn REYNOLDS and Billy Clark REYNOLDS. Burial was made in the city cemetery.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. E.E. GREGG, Miami; Mrs. Will COLLYGE, Garden Grove, Calif.; and Mrs. Nola BARNES, Mrs. Walter POYNOR and Mrs. C.F. REYNOLDS all of Westville and two sons, Sonk SIMMONS and Pete SIMMONS, Westville.
Our community mourns the passing of a pioneer citizen in the death of S.G. HOUCK who died here Sunday morning after a several weeks illness. Mr. HOUCK was 79 years and 9 months old. He was born in Ash County, N.C., and came to this section some 36 years ago.
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Baptist church and burial made in the city cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Ed L. HOUCK of New York and Joe B. HOUCK of Holdenville, Okla.; three daughters, Mrs. Rhoda SINGLETON, Wister, Okla.; Mrs. Oscar VANDERPOOL, Joplin, Mo., and Mrs. Mae COLVIN of the home; 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, other relatives and a large host of friends.
