Death at 76, Peter Long of
near Yukon, died Sunday at the ripe old age of 76 years and was buried Monday
from the Baptist Church at Yukon. The funeral services were conducted by
Reverends Morrison, and Hendrickson, of Yukon. Mr. Long has been identified with
Oklahoma from its beginning. At a time when the accorded three-score years and
ten had come and gone in his life, when most men would be content to rest from
their labors during their remaining days, the unconquerable, energetic spirit of
Uncle Peter Long, as he was familiarly known, pushed into the new country and
became on of our prosperous farmers.
During the past year an older brother of Mr. Long's died in Blaine Co., And so even in this new country old age discovers here and there a victim, and carries him into the great unknown beyond.
Yukon Weekley, Yukon, Oklahoma Territory, Thursday June 24, 1897 Died: Sunday
last, at 2:00 P.M., at his home west of town, Peter Long. Uncle Peter, as he was
known to everybody, was one of the landmarks of the community, and though of
advanced age he took an active interest in the affairs of life until a few days
before his death. He was a mason of high degree, and quite a number of the
members of El Reno Lodge assisted the home lodge in the burial service. Revs.
Morrioson and Hendrickson conducted the funeral services.
