Creek County in east-central Oklahoma was created at statehood [1907]. Intended to be named Moman County in honor of the mother of Moman Pruiett, the name was changed at the last moment by the Constitutional Convention; in the alphabetical list of counties in the copy of the constitution, Creek County appears following Mayes County. Named for the Creek Nation. The word is from the term "Ochese Creek Indians," used by the early British settlers. Please do not email about real estate needs etc.....
