Creek
County in east-central Oklahoma was created at statehood
[1907]. Intended to be named Moman County in honor of the
mother of Moman Pruiett, the name was changed at the last moment
by the Constitutional Convention; in the alphabetical list of
counties in the copy of the constitution, Creek County appears
following Mayes County.
Named
for the Creek Nation.
