Old Families Of Delaware County

A program of the Delaware County Genealogical Society

Old Families of Delaware County is a program to preserve the history of county families.  The program is open to everyone who can prove their ancestry back to an ancestor(s) who lived by the 1900 census in what is now Delaware County.

Present Delaware County includes a large area of Delaware District, a part of Saline District and part of Goingsnake District of the Cherokee Nation and a part of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation.

The application must be submitted on two standard genealogical forms, the ancestor/pedigree chart, and family group sheet.  Documents proving the ancestry must be included.  The federal census and Indian rolls are accepted as proof.  Obituaries, photographs, and other documents are welcome.  Always send a copy, not an original of such materials.

Everyone who documents their Delaware County family history, will have the file placed in the Old Families file at the Grove Public Library where it will be available for use by other researchers.  New members of Old Families are recognized at the society's annual meeting each November.  We hope at some time to publish a book of the Old Families.  For those who request it, the society will issue a certificate suitable framing at a cost of $5.

For more information, an application packet, or assistance, write the society at 1140 NEO Loop, Grove, Oklahoma 74344, email us at dcgsinc@hotmail.com, or visit us at the Grove library.
