"PAST BUSINESS of Harmon County, OK"
A project of the Harmon County Historical Museum

Martin Community

BY

Marvelle Wright

Howard and I bought the two story house across the road from the Martin Church of Christ from the two daughters of L. F. Martin after his death, tore it down and built our house in Hollis, which is still my home today. There was some really good lumber in that house to use.

Today nothing remains of the Martin Village except the Martin Church of Christ which is 98 years old, having been built in 1908. The Church congregation got so low we disbanded a few years ago.

The building was sold to Don Fox, a former Harmon Countian who now lives in Oklahoma City and is owner of several farms in that community. He remodeled it by putting in a kitchen, bedrooms, showers and a fire place. He also added a front porch and has play ground equipment in the yard for his grandchildren. This is their home away from home. He has several friends who come to Harmon County to hunt so this also is a Hunting Cabin at various times.

This is the only landmark left in Martin.
