Dewey's Garage

BY

Pam Heath

Dewey Heath, a native of Oklahoma was a well known mechanic in Hollis; he trained in Oklahoma City with General Motors and later worked for Chester Caswell Chevrolet. Dewey opened "Dewey's Garage" in the late 1950's.

Dewey built quite a reputation for himself through the years. He often used the family's kitchen table to work on irrigation motors for the farmers around town. He had several meals with G.W. and Nova Strawn.

Kenneth Kromer once said "Dewey Heath could do more with bailing wire than most mechanics could do with the rights parts."

Dewey supported his family through the years and eventually closed Dewey's Garage in the late 1980's. His employees were Elbert Mitchell and Burt Saine.

Dewey was Mayor of Hollis for 19 years and Fire Chief for 20 years.
