VINSON,HARMON COUNTY, OKLAHOMA
Vinson, Harmon County, Oklahoma is located in southwestern Oklahoma. The community started during the early 1890's when cattlemen from Texas moved into Old Greer County. The post office was first named for William P Francis. The name was changed to Trotter in 1902 and the following year the post office took on the last name of Henry B Vinson owner of the townsite. The post office is in operation as of 2003 but the population is down to about
Point of Interest
Rock Bridge is three miles from Vinson. It is a 100-foot rock formation overlooking an area studded with caves and springs. The Salt Fork of the Red River took its name from the salt produced from these springs.
Vinson was the largest school district in 1941-32 with 113 square miles. Vinson No 143, first teacher was Fred McCarroll.
Cave Creek Cemetery is located west and south of Vinson.
