Florence V. ADKINS
Funeral services for Florence V. ADKINS were held April 9 at the Williamson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don WILLIAMSON officiating.
She was born April 14, 1913 at Ava, MO. to Sam and Mattie HUGHES BLANKENSHIP and died April 6 at the Wetumka Nursing Home at the age of 87.
She came to Wetumka with her family in 1919. On Nov. 1, 1930 she was married to Ed Adkins at Holdenville.
During World War II, she did her part in the war effort by working at the ammunition depot in McAlester. In 1969, she and Ed moved to the Tulsa area. While there, they managed the Green Valley trailer park and she was the bookkeeper. They came back to Wetumka in 1983.
Mrs. ADKINS is remembered as a homemaker with her family remembering the pies and the chocolate gravy she used to make for the kids. God and her family were the most important things in her life.
For a little more than six of her final years, she was a resident of nursing homes, mostly in Wetumka Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, Ed, of the home; two daughters, Geneva HUGHES of Enid and Beverly and her husband, Rex PARKER of Wichita Falls, Tx; a son, Kenneth and his wife, Jerri of Sand Springs; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bill COOK of California; and several other relatives.
Her family members served as pallbearers.
Interment was in the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.
