Calvin L. BATTIEST, Jr.
Funeral services for Calvin “Sonny Boy”, “Buck” BATTIEST, Jr. were held March 25 at the Sand Creek Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Harry ANDERSON, pastor, officiating.
He was born March 29, 1957 in Los Angeles, Ca. to Calvin BATTIEST and Yvonne BUCKLEY BATTIEST and died March 21 at his home in Tulsa at the age of 44.
He spent his earliest years in California, coming to Wetumka in 1970. He attended the Weleetka and Wetumka school systems where he participated in all sports, especially excelling in track and field events. He graduated from Wetumka high school in 1975.
Following graduation, he relocated to Tulsa where he worked at various construction jobs as a welder, roofer and general carpenter.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing pool.
Mr. BATTIEST would always go out of his way to help someone.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne, in 1991 and an infant daughter, Colvina.
Survivors include his father, Calvin BATTIEST, of Tulsa; three sons, Kent and his wife, Melissa HARJO and Marlin HARJO of Tulsa and Andy FISH of North Carolina; three daughters, Cheri and Monya BATTIEST and Nancy HARJO, all of Tulsa; a granddaughter, Mercedes HARJO; a grandson soon to be born; three brothers, Clifford WILSON of Broken Bow, Rufus BATTIEST of Tulsa and Melvin BATTIEST of Hominy; four sisters and their spouses, Ramona and Gary POAFPYBITTY of Indiahoma, Rebecca BATTIEST and Joseph CHAMBERLIN of Tulsa , Carol Red Buffalo of Oklahoma City and Yvette and Chris POWELL of Wetumka; three aunts, Geneva FISH of Wetumka, Martha ALLEN of Gore and Betty HILL of Okmulgee; and several nieces, nephew and other relatives.
Family members served as pallbearers.
Interment was in the Sand Creek Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home Wetumka.
