Geneva FISH
Funeral services for Geneva FISH were held May 1 at the Sand Creek Indian Baptist Church with Rev. Harry ANDERSON, pastor and Rev. Fred LINDSEY officiating.
She was born Nov. 21, 1917 in Wetumka to Rufus BUCKLEY and Gussie COACHMAN BUCKLEY and died April 28 at Wetumka General Hospital at the age of 84.
Mrs. FISH was raised in the Wetumka area and attended school locally at Hobson. She later attended Sacred Hear Boarding School in Konawa.
As a young woman she was married to Josie FISH at Holdenville. They made their home in Wetumka area where she was a homemaker and church worker. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Mrs. FISH was a long time member of the Sand Creek Indian Baptist Church. Since the age of 35, she had actively served as Women's Leader. While she still served in that capacity, ill health had recently restricted her activities. She had taught over 40 years as a Sunday School teacher and had served as the church secretary and treasurer. She held several positions including president of the Women's Missionary Union and had worked many years as an associational worker for the Muskogee-Wichita-Seminole Baptist Association. In February 1995 she received an award from he church in appreciation of 54 years of service and dedication.
In her spare time she enjoyed quilting. Part of her efforts in her associational work was making quilts to raise money for missions. She also enjoyed reading her Bible and singing Creek hymns.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, brothers, Kozy, Harvey, Ledon, Henry, Waitie and Louis BUCKLEY and a sister, Yvonne MARTIN.
Survivors include three children, Melosie BERRYHILL, Pauline STARR and Curtis and his wife, Anna SMITH , all of Wetumka, Marie Janice ASBURY, whom se raised as her own, of Wichita Falls, Tx.; sisters, Betty HILL of Okmulgee and Martha and her husband, Abe ALLEN of Gore; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Clayton and Larry BUCKLEY, Anthony FISH, Hillis MANLEY, Jimmy BUCKLEY and Anthony HILL. Honorary pallbearers were Sonny GIVENS and Daniel and Harold COACHMAN.
Interment was in the Sand Creek Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.
