James Robert HORNE (Bob)

            Services for James Robert HORNE (Bob), 66 will be Thursday (today) May 27 at Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church will Rev. Jim PARRISH officiating.

            James Robert HORNE of Holdenville died at home, May 23. He was born Dec. 17, 1932 in Wewoka. He was the son of Harve Raymond HORNE and Clara SPRINGER. He had two siblings, Phyllis Louise HORNE CALKINS (deceased) and John Leonard HORNE of Monarch Beach, Ca.

            He was married to Jo Ella BALL on April 25, 1953 in Holdenville. They had three children, Phyllis Jane NISLE of La Mirada, Ca. Anita Jo KOOP of Olathe, Ks. And Robert Raymond OF Northwood, Iowa. Bob’s greatest joy was his six grandchildren; Jennifer Joy and Jeremy David NISLE, Aimee Marie, David Timothy, and twins Rebecca Jo and Elizabeth Anne KOOP.

            After graduating from Wewoka high school, Bob served in the U.S. Navy from October 1951 through August 1953. The Korean War was in progress at that time, and he was assigned to the USS Missouri BB63, a battleship.

            After marring Jo, he moved to California where he lived until 198 when he retired from French American Bakery. After retiring, he returned to Holdenville with his wife where he has lived for the past 10 years.

            Bob was a member of the Barnard Memorial United Methodist Church. He was involved in many ministries at this church included VIM (Volunteers in Mission), Sunday school superintendent, and a member of the administrative board. He also worked on various building and remolding projects at the church.

            In the community, he was active in the American Legion where he served as a historian and vice commander. He participated in the community theater production of “Inherit the Wind” in 1994.

            Bob’s hobbies included tinkering on cars and all sports, especially football. Bob enjoyed researching his heritage and spent a lot of time on the Internet researching and corresponding. He recently returned from a nine day genealogy trip, which covered eight states and 2800 miles. Bob enjoyed his daily “office” coffee group.

            Burial will be in Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
